Mandela’s sole goal helps Vipers sink Blacks Power

Vipers SC needed a late goal from right-back Ashraf Mandela to bag a narrow 0-1 win over Blacks Power at the Aki Bua Stadium, on Friday.

The hosts should have taken an early lead through Michael Siwu‘s fourth minute freekick, but it was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora, who stood in for the rested Alfred Macumu Mudekereza.

The Venoms then attacked with more intent and nearly netted through Murushid Juuko‘s eighth minute header off Karim Watambala‘s freekick, but it went over the bar, by a whisker.

After a period of sustained pressure in the second half, the guests scored off Mandela’s well struck penalty following a handball in the box.

Implications of the result and what’s next on the horizon

In eighth with eight points, the Venoms will return to action against Arua Hill SC on Tuesday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Meanwhile, 14th placed side Blacks Power, who have two points will be guests to Maroons FC at Luzira on Tuesday.
