FUFA has officially given a green light to two Uganda Premier League matches to be played at night, under floodlights.
Top-flight heavyweights Vipers SC and KCCA FC have taken the lead with their respectiveNight league games this weekend set for the floodlights.
Vipers play host to Blacks Power FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday, while a day later KCCA will be at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo against UPDF FC.
The two matches will however serve as the litmus test about whether night football will happen further in the future.
“However, the FUFA Club Licensing Committee will make a report after these matches to form the basis of further matches to be played under floodlights at these stadiums,” said a FUFA statement.
“Any match under floodlights thereafter on any stadium in the territory of Uganda shall be held following the regulations to be published in the due course.”
Night football has been a long-time cry from the fraternity as the bigger patch of fans fails to watch matches during the daytime, due to work-related reasons.
The clubs are set to directly positively benefit from the about-to-become new normal through the increased gate collections.
