Villa edge Bright Stars to extend brilliant start

SC Villa registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreational Grounds, on Saturday to push further their impressive early season run.

Charles Bbaale‘s lone strike ensured the Jogoo managed revenge against a side that beat them home and away in the previous campaign.

The record champions imposed themselves on the game from the start, with a high-intensity press that made it hard for the hosts to express themselves to their usual best.

Seven minutes into the game, Bbaale nearly gave the visitors the lead but Bright Stars goalkeeper Hassan Matovu was equal to the task.

Five minutes after the restart, Bbaale struck the all-important goal, after a full stretch to tap home Joseph Kafumbe’s curling cross from the right.

The dangerous Bbaale should have added another after intercepting Jonathan Odongo’s clearance, but his effort sailed narrowly wide of the right goal-post.

Hosts’ skipper Nelson Senkatuka nearly stole a point at the death, but his challenge went above the crossbar by inches.

The result sent Villa to the second spot with 13 points while Bright Stars are 10th with five points after six games played.
