  • UCU Lady Canons 70-74 JT Lady Jaguars

Matrina Anyango delivered a standout performance at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday night, but her heroics were not enough as UCU Lady Canons fell 74-70 to JT Lady Jaguars in a tightly contested National Basketball League second round opener.

Anyango finished with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, carrying UCU through a match that swung back and forth before slipping away in the closing stages.

UCU started well, edging the first quarter 20-19 in a balanced opening period. They tightened up defensively in the second quarter and went into halftime leading 38-32, looking in control.

After the break, JT Lady Jaguars raised the tempo. Their pressure on the ball forced turnovers and slowly cut into UCU’s lead. By the end of the third quarter, the gap had narrowed to 50-47.

The final quarter belonged to JT. Their full-court press unsettled UCU, forcing mistakes at key moments as they fought their way back and eventually took the lead, holding on for a 74-70 win.

Mercy Batamuliza led JT with 17 points, while Priscillar Nambogo added 12 as the Lady Jaguars completed a season double over UCU.

For UCU, Sylvia Nantongo scored 15 points and Sylvia Nakituka added 10, but it was Anyango’s brilliance that stood out in a losing effort.
