2026 National Basketball League | Men | Friday April 24
- Sommet Basketball Club 64-50 JT Jaguars
Peter Cheng led from the front as Sommet Basketball Club beat JT Jaguars 64-50 on Friday night at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, marking a strong return for the National Basketball League.
After weeks without action and uncertainty around Hoima Arena, the league resumed with intensity.
Cheng made his presence felt early, hitting the first three-pointer of the game to settle Sommet after JT Jaguars’ fast start.
Jaguars looked sharp in the opening minutes, with Chuol Dut and Chuma Fadhili controlling the paint and setting the pace. But Sommet grew into the game.
Mark Mayanja knocked down a three to give them a brief lead, while Joseph Chuma added important points. Still, Dut’s dominance ensured Jaguars edged the first quarter 18-14.
The second quarter shifted momentum. Sommet tightened up, with coach Albert Aciko making key changes.
John Focus Teko made an instant impact off the bench, linking well with Brighton Galiwango, while Jaguars began to lose control through turnovers.
Sommet punished those mistakes. Galiwango added easy points and Chuma finished with a strong dunk as Sommet closed the half 29-24 in front.
After the break, the game slowed but remained competitive. Cheng kept Sommet ticking with free throws, while Jaguars struggled to convert their chances. At one point, the scores were level at 31-31, but Sommet stayed composed.
More Jaguars turnovers proved costly again. Sommet capitalized late in the third quarter, opening a gap and finishing it 43-37 ahead.
In the final quarter, Sommet took full control. Their defense held firm, and Cheng continued to lead the offense.
With five minutes left, the gap had stretched to 57-45, and Jaguars looked out of ideas despite timeouts from coach Sudi Ulanga.
Cheng pushed the lead further before being rested late on after a game-high 25 points. Sommet calmly saw out the game to secure a 64-50 win.
Chuma added 14 points for Sommet, while Dut led JT Jaguars with 16.
Earlier, JT Lady Jaguars beat UCU Lady Canons 74-70 in overtime.
