Youngstar Peter Kaye scored the only goal that saw Mamba Namakaka start the Bika Bya Baganda football tournament with a win over Ngeye.
In a game played at Muteesa 2 Wankulukuku Stadium at an early kickoff for the opening double header on Saturday, May 2, Kaye’s goal came in the early minutes of the game with a stunning free kick.
For most of the game, both teams tried to initiate competitive play, though Mmamba was a bit better, forcing Ngeye’s goalkeeper Yusuf Nfuma to do much in keeping his clan close in the game.
Meanwhile, the most astonishing save came from Juma Mutebi of Mmamba, who pulled off a flash push to deny Brian Kalumba’s thunderous effort.
In the pre-match comment, Mamba Namakaka head coach Alex Gitta praised his clan mates, “This win is a result of bringing young clan mates who are willing to fight for our clan. As the coach, I am proud of my players for accomplishing our game plan, though we have created a lot of unconverted chances, but that is football. Now, it is my job to work on that.”
In response, Ngeye head coach Matia Lule was impressed by his team’s performance, “I am satisfied with our performance; they just created more than us, and they managed to score, and we failed to score.”
On the next steps for the teams, Alex Gitta said, “We only aim to win because a big clan like ours can’t aim for something less. Good enough, we have started with a win which we can build on.”
However, Matia Lule noted, “It is just the first game; we can improve, and for starters, we have to reconcile and push to progress from the group.”
In Group C, Mamba, Namakaka, and Ngeye are in Group C along with Njaza and Nvubu. Out of the eight groups, only the group winner will progress to the Round of 16, joining last year’s quarterfinalists.
