CAVB Men’s African Club Championship | Group A | Thursday April 23

  • Petrojet 0-3 Nemostars

[20-25, 22-25, 23-25]

Daudi Okello and Fredrico Mujinya led from the front as Nemostars Volleyball Club opened their 47th CAVB Men’s African Club Championship campaign with a confident win.

Okello finished with 20 points, while Mujinya added 12, both central to a strong opening performance.

The Ugandan champions beat Egypt’s Petrojet Sporting Club 3-0 at BK Arena on Thursday, showing control after a slow start.

Petrojet edged ahead early, taking an 8-5 lead in the first set and forcing Nemostars into a timeout.

That break changed everything. Nemostars returned sharper, levelled at 8-8, and took charge.

Strong work at the net from Smith Okumu, Benard Malinga and Okello kept Petrojet quiet as Nemostars closed the set 25-20.

The second set was tighter. Petrojet improved defensively, with libero Ahmed Dronka standing out, but their weak blocking let them down.

Both sides struggled on serve, yet Nemostars stayed composed to take it 25-22.

In the third set, Nemostars had to fight. They trailed early before drawing level at 10-10.

Okello then stepped up, scoring key points to open a gap and shift momentum. Petrojet called timeout at 14-10, but Nemostars held firm.

Malinga sealed the win with the final point, as Nemostars wrapped up the set 25-23 and completed a straight sets victory.
