The Uganda National Men’s Senior Basketball team, the Silverbacks suffered an 82-64 loss to Angola in the opening match of Round two of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Silverbacks had an absolutely slow start to the game, with their opponents cruising to a huge 26-12 lead in the opening quarter.
The only silver-lining for Uganda was the superb show in the final quarter which they won 22-14, to limit the damage.
Uganda’s Deng Geu was the highest scorer on the evening for either side, putting up a strong 17 points.
He was closely followed by Ishmail Wainwright and Angola’s Bruno Fernando, who each managed 16 points.
Uganda’s charge for qualification to the 2023 World Cup slated for Japan, Phillipines and Indonesia, will continue on Saturday against Ivory Coast. The latter, on Friday beat Nigeria 78-66.
The Silverbacks will then play their final Round two bout against Guinea on Sunday, with the final qualification window set for February 2023.
