First domestic defeat for Isabirye at Vipers

Vipers SC were edged 1-0 by Uganda Premier League leaders SC Villa on Saturday at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The result condemns Vipers head coach Alex Isabirye to his first domestic defeat at the helm since taking over from Spaniard Beto Bianchi, about two months back.

Overall domestically, Isabirye has been in charge of eight matches, winning five, drawing twice with one defeat.

Villa’s in-form forward Charles Bbaale grabbed the day’s headlines as he struck in first half to hand the record holders three valuable points.

The goal took his league tally to 10, just one behind topscorer, and Express FC winger-cum-forward Allan Kayiwa.

The result was a blow to Vipers’ title aspirations as they stayed third with 39 points, seven adrift of Villa at the top on 46.

The Venoms have however played three games less than the Jogoo, but have played just one fewer than runners-up KCCA, who are on 44 points.

Isabirye and his troops will be keen on making quick amends as they host Gaddafi FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Villa will keep their fight for the title as they visit Maroons FC at Luzira on Wednesday.
