- KCCA 3-0 Kataka
KCCA FC took a giant step toward their 11th Uganda Cup final with a commanding 3-0 victory over Kataka FC in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-finals at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Saturday.
Led by an electric performance from Emmanuel Anyama who netted twice and a late clincher from Ashraf Mugume, the Kasasiro Boys asserted their dominance, setting up a strong cushion ahead of the return leg in Mbale.
The game began with intensity from both sides. KCCA dominated possession and carved out early opportunities but their finishing let them down.
Muhammed Biafulo nearly stunned the home crowd with a powerful effort for Kataka, only to be denied by a sharp save from Mutwalibu Mugoloofa.
Moments later, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza saw his curling shot bounce off the upright.
The breakthrough finally came on the brink of halftime. A well-timed flick from Joel Sserunjogi found Anyama, who coolly slotted home to give KCCA a deserved lead going into the break.
KCCA came out firing in the second half. Just minutes in, Arafat Usama nearly doubled the lead from close range after a Kwikiriza cross, but his effort was narrowly off target.
Then came a moment of magic. In the 49th minute, Anyama struck again, this time with a thunderous shot from outside the box that left Kataka keeper Chris Nsubuga rooted to the spot.
With Kataka pushing forward in search of a lifeline, Ashraf Mugume delivered the final blow in the 81st minute, converting a low cross from João Gabriel to complete the 3-0 rout.
KCCA’s convincing first-leg win gives them breathing space heading into the return leg on Sunday, May 18, at Mbale Municipal Stadium.
