KIU Titans assumed an early advantage in the series as they beat Power 68-59 in game one (quarterfinals) of the National Basketball League playoffs at Lugogo on Friday.
With game two slated for Sunday, the Titans will hit the semi-finals if they assume a successive victory over the five-time champions.
Under the lights at Lugogo, Power were the better team for the opening half, assuming a narrow 25-24 lead.
That was before they lost all the grips on the game, succumbing to the Titans’ strong fight in the third quarter, with the latter leading 24-13.
KIU Titans were inspired by strong shows from Isaiah Mabeny Ater, Henry Okoth and Fidel Okoth, who put up 19, 15 and 11 points respectively.
For Power, Garner Ochora and Geoffrey Solo were the stars of the evening, with each putting up 12 points.
The victor after the three-game series will take on either of UCU Canons or JKL Dolphins.
