Police FC will play the final of the 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup despite a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Adjumani TC on Friday.
The result ensured the two sides tied 2-2 on aggregate, but it’s Police who sail through after a 1-0 win in the first leg a week ago at Kavumba Recreation Grounds.
The Cops have advanced on away goals rule, and will therefore play their third final in history.
They played the final in 2000 and 2002/03 but lost on both occasions to SC Villa 1-0 and to Express FC 3-1, respectively.
On the evening in Adjumani, it’s the guests that scored first at the stroke of halftime, through Samuel Kayongo‘s goal.
The hosts then restored parity seven minutes after restarting through captain Safi Basani from the spot, to give them a lifeline.
Despite Adjumani getting their second early with 27 minutes to play, they couldn’t get past the Cops for an all-important third, that would have seen them make their first-ever final.
Police will now take on either Vipers SC or Soltilo Bright Stars in the Uganda Cup final. The former holds a firm 4-0 first-leg advantage.
