On the first day of the 2026 USSSA Boys Football National Championship, defending champion Buddo SS started with maximum points after beating College Aleat 2-0 at Lira Town College ground.
Aaron Okello opened the score in the 13th minute of the game and later in the 76th minute Hillary Tumwine completed the score for Buddo Secondary School in the game played on the afternoon of May 11.
On the other hand, the day one for the championship giants St Mary’s Kitende proved half shocking as they just avoided a defeat to debutant Bukedea Comprehensive North to secure a 1-1 draw.
Uthuman Kaaya handed the underdogs a halftime lead, Kitende looked for a resurrection until Denis Kisiriko Luzige found an equaliser with the game approaching its late minutes.
In other games Kyadondo SS also started a 2-1 win over Kigumba Intensive, Rafeal Masuud opened the score for Matugga Kiryagonja-based School but Victor Adoko equalised before Joseph Kakooza’s late winner.
Greenlight Islamic also started brighter with a commanding 5-1 win over Dr Obote College, Shafick Ssegirinya bagged a hat trick while Ronald Bwikizo and Hamza Ssentamu also scored on the score sheet for Nansana-based school
With over 30 games taking place on day one, the championship shall return to action on Tuesday May 12, and continue up to May 20.
