Blacks Power FC picked their first ever Uganda Premier League victory with a comfortable 1-3 win over Maroons at Prisons Grounds, Luzira on Tuesday.

Simon Peter Otto, Siwu Mike and Dicken Okwir were all on target for the guests while Solomon Walusimbi found the hosts’ only consolation.

Following a cagey opening, the visitors threatened in the seventh minute, and forward Dicken Okwir buried home Francis Onekalit’s pass for the away side to lead.

Seven minutes later, the hosts found the equaliser through Solomon Walusimbi, thanks to the high pressing from the home side.

Two minutes past the half hour mark, Blacks Power were awarded a penalty and Mike Siwu emphatically converted, to regain the lead.

In the 37th minute, Otto silenced the home fans at Luzira after finding the third for the Lira-based side off Onekalit’s assist.

In the second half, Maroons returned a changed side and would have instantly reduced the deficit, but Samson Kigozi’s flying shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Emmanuel Odongo.

Implications of the result and what’s next on the horizon

The result has left Blacks Power 14th with five points while Maroons are 10th with eight, after suffering their first loss at home.

Maroons will face UPDF on Tuesday November 22 in their next fixture, while Blacks Power will host the same opponent six days later.
