Gaddafi FC stun defending champion Vipers at Kakindu

Army-side, Gaddafi FC emerged on top as they picked a 1-0 victory over Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers SC at the Kakindu Stadium on Sunday.

Alex Kitata struck in the first minute to hand maximum points to the Jinja-based outfit, who moved to seventh with 15 points from 10 matches.

They also became the second team to beat the Venoms this season with KCCA FC the only other team to achieve the feat, albeit, off a similar scoreline.

The Kitende side were wasteful on the evening as they failed to convert a number of goalscoring opportunities in both halves.

Karim Watambala and Hillary Mukundane in the first half, were both excellently denied by goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

The Gaddafi custodian was yet again strong in the second stanza, as he denied substitute, Najib Yiga’s strong shot in the 75th minute with a stunning save.

The result has left the Venoms with 20 points, and will look to bounce back quickly when they play hosts to Onduparaka FC on Wednesday.

On the same day, Wasswa Bbosa’s Gaddafi will make a trip to Maroons FC’s home in Luzira.
