  • Lugazi FC 1-2 Kitara FC

Kitara FC moved level on points with KCCA FC after a hard earned 2-1 win over Lugazi FC in Najjembe, breathing life back into their title chase.

After four matches without victory, including tough results against Vipers SC and KCCA, Kitara needed a response. They got it, but only after a tense and controversial finish.

Patrick Henry Kaddu gave them the lead in the 31st minute, rising to head in Gaddafi Wahab’s free kick. Kitara controlled much of the game, but never fully put it to bed.

Lugazi stayed in it and struck late. Substitute Paul Busolo tapped in from close range in the 82nd minute to level the score and swing momentum.

Then came the turning point. Lugazi were convinced they deserved a penalty when Alvin Birungi went down in the box, but referee Lucky Kasalirwe waved play on.

Moments later, captain Richard Ayiko brought down Edson Agondeze on a counterattack and was sent off for a second booking.

Kitara made it count immediately. In stoppage time, a long ball from Kato Samuel Nemehimana was flicked on by Agondeze into the path of Muhammad Shaban, who calmly finished the winner.

At full time, Lugazi players protested the decisions, frustration spilling over after a result that slipped away late.

The win takes Kitara to 51 points, level with KCCA and still chasing leaders Vipers.

Lugazi remain near the bottom, with the pressure of survival growing.
