Mbarara City FC head into their Uganda Premier League test knowing the weight of history is against them 6 matches, 4 wins (Maroons FC) and 2 losses (Mbarara City FC).

At Rwamwanja Stadium, the Ankole Lions face Maroons FC, the Prison Wanderers who have not lost to them in seven years.

It is more than just another fixture. It is survival on one side, control on the other.

Mbarara City sit 14th with 16 points, just one above the relegation zone. Their form is alarming no win in eight matches, seven defeats and one draw against BUL FC. Even worse, they have not beaten Maroons since 2019.

That last victory came through goals from Makueth Wol and Ivan Eyamu in a 2-0 win on February 5, 2019 in the 2018/19 season at the Luzira Prison grounds. Since then, it has been four defeats and two draws in six meetings.

This season’s reverse fixture also offered no escape. Mbarara led through Marvin Busuulwa in Luzira, but Abel Eturude struck late to force a draw.

Their latest setback was another blow. They led Police FC at home but ended up losing 2-1, deepening their slump.

Maroons are not at their best either. They lost 1-0 to NEC FC in their previous match. Still, they remain in a stronger position overall and a win could lift them to eighth place with 32 points.

For Mbarara City, the math is simple. A win takes them to 19 points and possibly four clear of danger depending on other results, including Buhimba United Saints against Vipers SC.

But form, history, and confidence all sit against them. Seven years without a win over Maroons is the burden they must break to survive.

Elsewhere, Buhimba United Saints host Vipers, URA visit Police, BUL face UPDF, Entebbe UPPC meet KCCA, and Express take on NEC.
