- SMASK 2-0 Ssaku SS
- BCS 5-0 Ndejje SS
St Mary’s School, Kitende (SMASK) continued their dominant run in the 2025 USSSA National Boys Football Championship with a clinical 2-0 victory over SSAKU Secondary School on Thursday morning in Ngora.
This marks their second straight win in the tournament as the title-favourites maintain momentum in their hunt for national glory.
The goals for SMASK came in either half of the game, with Monda Jahid opening the scoring in the first half, followed by a second-half strike from Kasanya Leonard to seal the win.
Their latest victory follows a commanding 4-0 win over Bugisu High School on Wednesday, where Santos Agok, Arafaat Nkoola, Jahid Mwondha, and Dennis Kisiriko (from the penalty spot) all found the back of the net.
Speaking after the match, SMASK head coach Zungu Hassan praised his players for their resilience and adaptability in the face of tactical challenges.
“I’m so happy that we have won the game. Though it hasn’t been so easy, because when you look at the opponent, they were defending so compact in a low block,” Zungu said.
“Moreover, seven players playing in the last line of defence and the distance between that last line and the goalkeeper was so small, so it was difficult for us to penetrate through. But good enough, we have tried and I’m really happy for my players.”
Zungu emphasized the importance of maintaining a winning culture at St. Mary’s.
“As St. Mary’s, in any competition we play, it’s all about trophies. And that’s the culture of St. Mary’s, nothing else. I think hopefully we shall go back to Wakiso victorious.”
Player Ssebagala Ibrahim echoed his coach’s optimism, appreciating both the level of competition and tournament organization.
“The tournament is going on well. We’re getting the best experiences from different teams,” said Ssebagala.
“The officiation is fair and the organisation is good.”
Elsewhere in the tournament, Bukedea Comprehensive School (BCS) delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the day, thrashing Ndejje SS 5-0.
Star of the show was Simon Wanyama, who netted a stunning hat-trick in his debut match of the tournament.
The former St. Julian School forward expressed his delight and set ambitious targets for the tournament.
“I am glad, today was my first game and I scored goals for my school,” Wanyama said.
“My target is to score 9 goals in the tournament because I believe I can.”
