Uganda Cup semifinal | First Leg

  • KCCA Vs Kataka – Phillip Omondi Stadium | 7 PM | Sunday, May 4

As the chase for silverware intensifies, KCCA FC interim head coach Jackson Magera is not mincing his words, We can’t take any team for granted.

That’s the tone he is setting as his side prepares to face Kataka FC in the first leg of the Uganda Cup semifinal, a clash that promises more drama than the divisions suggest.

Though Kataka hails from the FUFA Big League, they’ve proven to be giant-slayers this season, knocking out top-tier sides URA FC and Police FC in earlier rounds.

That run has not only turned heads but also placed KCCA on high alert. For Magera, who is guiding the Kasasiro Boys through a turbulent league campaign, this cup run is more than just redemption, it’s a shot at legacy.

“They are very good, and that is how they beat two Premier League sides already,” Magera acknowledged during the team’s final training session.

“At this stage, we can’t take any team for granted. But we are ready.”

KCCA, one of Uganda’s most decorated clubs, has gone trophyless since 2019, an unusually long drought for a team accustomed to success.

The Uganda Cup now stands as their only remaining route to silverware this season and the pressure is tangible.

“This is a big club and it is all about winning trophies,” Magera emphasized.

“This is the only chance we have to win silverware.”

Despite injury setbacks, including the continued absence of Etienne Katenga, the mood in the KCCA camp remains optimistic.

The return of key players like Mustafa Mujjuzi and Sadat Anaku is a welcome boost as the team looks to capitalize on home advantage and build a solid lead before the return leg.

Kataka, on the other hand, arrive with nothing to lose and everything to gain, a combination that has made them dangerous throughout the tournament.

Their fearless approach and tenacity have made them the story of the Cup so far and they’ll be looking to write another thrilling chapter against the eleven-time league champions.

With emotions high and stakes even higher, Wednesday’s showdown could either cement KCCA’s path to glory or see another underdog script penned by the men from Mbale.
