In the Bika Bya Baganda football tournament at Lubiri SS on Sunday, May 3, Nyonyi Nakinsige and Ngonge started with dominant wins, while Nyonyi Nyange received a walkover after Nyonyi Ndiisa disappeared.
Following the grand opening of the 2024 Bika Games Championship yesterday, 2023 champions Ngonge pulled off a 4-0 win over debutants Nswaswa.
Before losing their grip on the game, Nswaswa initially resisted, controlling the stronger side to a 1-0 lead at halftime. Martin Kajwega scored the goal.
In the second half, Ngonge broke Nswaswa’s stubbornness with Richard Ssonko making it 2-0. Lawrence Ssembatya converted from a penalty spot to extend the lead before John Innocent Kisolo sealed the 4-0 win.
After the game, Ngonge head coach Anthony Bongole commented, “The result has given us a good start. With all the leagues still ongoing, resulting in our players being in good shape, we hope to perform even better in upcoming games.”
On the other hand, Nswaswa’s head coach Juma Ndawula commented, “We have been playing our first-ever game in Bika football and against such a strong side. In the first half, we played well, but in the second half, we failed to stay playing our way, and we got punished.”
After the game, the most entertaining team of the day at Lubiri SS, Nyonyi Nakinsige, took the stage as they humbled Ntalaganya 2-0.
Ali Mankanga scored the opener earlier in the first half, and Entebbe UPPC’s soft-skilled Medi Kyeyune doubled the lead in the first half with an effortless left bender from the right flank around 8 yards from the goal line—a joy to watch, unfortunately missed by cameras at the venue.
Eventually, the two goals were enough for the Eric Kisuze-coached team to bag the win that pulled a big smile from team manager Hajji Rajab Ssebulime who promised the world to the players after the win.
Earlier in the day, Nyonyi Nyange earned a free-touch win due to the absence of Nyonyi Ndiisa, who, according to the rumors reported failed to get transport to the venue.
After Matchday 1, the teams shall return to action with their second appearance of the season on Friday, August 8, at Kabaka Kyabaggu at Wakisha Research Center, with Nakinsige facing Ngaali, and Nyonyi Nyange will face Nsuma.
