While asserting the stability of the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) amid ongoing wrangles with the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) over professional boxing rights, Captain George Kiggundu has revealed his ambition to become the next FUFA President, replacing Moses Magogo.
Captain Kiggundu’s announcement lends weight to widespread speculation following reports that Engineer Moses Magogo was advised by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) to resign from the FUFA presidency.
“I am sure that these wrangles among boxing factions will come to an end, and UPBC will continue its professional role,” Kiggundu stated. “From my experience, I have long served the sports fraternity in both boxing and football. Football is where I have served the most, and I am assuring you that once Magogo resigns, I am standing to take over as FUFA boss.”
He added, “I am very optimistic about my words, and I am assuring you that Magogo has to go because he is corrupt. I am 100 percent certain of that.”
Kiggundu is a veteran of the revolutionary war that brought the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government to power. Within the sports industry, he has primarily served in a security and safety capacity, working closely with FIFA Safety Officer Dickson Okello.
During his extensive tenure in sports safety, he completed various administrative courses organized by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
