Nile Cricket Club’s relegation to Division Three was confirmed after a dramatic weekend in the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League, with Kutchi Tigers B’s victory over SKLPS CC sealing the club’s fate.

Nile entered the weekend knowing they needed a positive result to keep their survival hopes alive. Instead, they suffered a crushing seven-wicket defeat to Soroti City CC at Lugogo Cricket Oval and were left relying on other results.

Batting first after winning the toss, Nile struggled throughout their innings and managed only 96/9 in 37.5 overs. Captain Lennon Kangume top-scored with 19 as Soroti City’s disciplined bowling attack kept the pressure on. Hillary Kuteesa led the way with three wickets.

Soroti City made light work of the chase. Juma Sururu blasted 47 off 37 balls as they raced to 99/3 in just 15.4 overs to complete a comfortable victory.

Despite the defeat, Nile’s relegation was not immediately confirmed. Their hopes rested on SKLPS CC defeating Kutchi Tigers B the following day. That result never came.

At Entebbe Cricket Ground, Kutchi Tigers B were bowled out for just 89 in 31 overs, with Mayur Kerai making 23. SKLPS appeared well placed to secure victory and keep their promotion ambitions alive, but a dramatic batting collapse changed everything.

Led by Hitesh Bhudiya’s three wickets, Kutchi Tigers B bundled out SKLPS for only 57 to claim a 32-run victory. The win guaranteed Kutchi Tigers B’s survival, ended SKLPS’ hopes of reaching Division One and confirmed Nile CC’s relegation alongside St John’s SS Mukono.

Elsewhere, JACC secured a hard-fought four-wicket win over Kutchi Tigers CC in the Gold Category. Chasing 179, JACC recovered from 0/2 thanks to an unbeaten 66 from captain Kenneth Waiswa to reach 181/6 and claim victory.

Ceylon Lions also strengthened their position with a convincing 65-run win over Rounders CC. Perry Wazombe starred with 104 off 58 balls before taking four wickets, a performance that pushed Rounders deeper into relegation trouble.

In the Bronze Category, Kifaru CC defeated Chennai CC by 79 runs, while Pak Shaheens CC were awarded victory after Iganga CC forfeited their match following a dispute over an umpiring decision.
