Like he has done in the recent past, State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang has yet again given an update on the ongoing works at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Ogwang has reasserted that work will be fully done by November 30, 2023 and that it would be ready for use this year.
He also promised Ugandans that the stadium, upon completion, will be among the very best in the region, a claim that has drawn mixed reactions from the masses.
“Upon return from Kabale, I went straight to inspect the ongoing renovation works at Namboole Stadium,” he tweeted on Tuesday evening.
“I am glad to inform the country that all the necessary equipment and materials are now in place and works are going on uninterrupted.”
“Once completed, the stadium will be one of the best in the region with all major indoor facilities,” the minister made the claim loud.
At the moment, Uganda continues to struggle with low standard facilities in the entire sports sector.
Football particularly, doesn’t have a CAF or FIFA approved stadium at the moment, as national team home games have in the recent past been played beyond borders.
After Uganda hosting Algeria in Cameroon in the AFCON qualifiers over a month back, the female team (She Cranes) also ironically, played host to Rwanda in Rwanda in the Olympics qualifiers last week.
