Goalkeeper Ismail Watenga completed his move to South Africa’s DStv Premiership club Lamontville Golden Arrows FC on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Watenga spent the previous two campaigns out on loan at Chippa United and Marumo Gallants respectively.
He’s expected to follow in the footsteps of the iconic Denis Onyango at the Mamelodi Sundowns however, he’ll have to patiently prove his worth away from the club, much like Onyango.
While at Chippa United, Watenga kept an impressive 7 clean sheets from the 10 games he played for the club.
The former St. Marys Kitende and Vipers SC shot stopper also had stints with Bunna in Ethiopia and Kenya’s Sofapaka FC.
The 2023/24 DStv Premiership season kicked off on Friday 04th August 2023 with Sekhukhune United losing 1-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Golden Arrows, nicknamed as Abafana Bes’thende, finished 9th on the league table with 38 points from 30 games played last season.
Watenga made his national team debut in the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
