The quarter-finals of the 2022 season of the Pepsi University Football League get underway tomorrow with two-time champions Kampala University hosting last season’s finalist, St. Lawrence University at Kibuli at 3pm.

Kampala University who finished second in the Group E were drawn against St. Lawrence University who topped Group D with 11 points from six games.

The hosts, who managed only 10 points from the group stages are confident ahead of the encounter and this was stressed by their head coach Tumusiime Vincent.

“Everyone at KU welcomed the draw. We are ready for St. Lawrence and we believe this is a good chance for us to go all the way to the finals.”

The two sides last met in 2018 at the semi-final stage of the competition with St. Lawrence University edging Kampala University 2-1 at home before losing by the same scoreline in the return leg. Kampala University won 6-5 in a penalty shootout.

“Last season they went all the way to the finals. So we are not expecting it to be an easy game. However if you want to win the trophy you have to beat the best,” Tumusiime added.

For St. Lawrence University, having come close last season but falling short in the finals, this season should be about finally taking home the trophy.

“This is a new squad and we are happy to have made it to this stage of the competition and we expect to go all the way. The team is not under any pressure,” head coach Nnono Ssozi noted.

“We have played KU before and whenever we do it is a close game. To get to this stage we have played strong teams which I believe has prepared us for KU so come rain come sunshine you can expect a good performance from the team,” Nnono added.
