- URA FC 2-2 Maroons FC
Fred Amaku came back to haunt his former side, rescuing URA with a crucial equaliser in a lively 2-2 draw against Maroons at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Tuesday.
URA had to dig deep, coming from behind twice in a game that reflected both teams’ inconsistency this season.
Maroons struck first in the 22nd minute when Ivan Mayanja headed in Brian Nkuubi’s free kick. URA responded almost immediately, with Bruno Bunyaga leveling three minutes later.
The visitors went ahead again in the second half through Darius Ojok, marking his return from injury with a goal that looked set to win it.
But Amaku had the final say. The former Maroons forward stepped up to equalise and secure a point for URA in a match full of swings.
The result does little to ease URA’s difficult campaign. Even if they win their remaining four games, they can only reach eight victories, set to be their lowest tally since joining the top flight in 2002, excluding the 2005 knockout season.
Maroons stay eighth with 34 points, while URA are 11th on 25 after 26 matches.
Next, URA face Vipers away on May 8, while Maroons travel to Lugogo to meet KCCA a day earlier.
Elsewhere, earlier Mbarara City boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Express, and NEC stretched their unbeaten run to 16 games with a 1-0 victory over BUL in Njeru.
