Midfielder Ibrahim Kayiwa struck late for Busoga United as they shocked Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League, at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Tuesday.

The result, in the process denied the guests a chance to go top of the log, after leaders KCCA FC also suffered a similar defeat to Soltilo Bright Stars at Kavumba.

On the day, the Venoms didn’t show up for the biggest part of the match as they struggled to maintain possession in attack and create goalscoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, Busoga were brilliant and resilient throughout as their tactical awareness foiled any bits of threat from the defending champions.

In the 90th minute, Kayiwa took full advantage of a poor clearance from Isa Mubiru, for a first-time shot past goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora.

Even with the huge win for Busoga, they’ve finished the first round of the season second from bottom above Onduparaka FC with nine points.

On the other hand, Vipers will keep in second at least until February 2023, as they have garnered 27 first round points in 14 matches.
