Vipers SC adds Congolese duo to roster

CAF Champions League group stages newbies, Vipers SC have completed the signing of two Democratic Republic of Congo nationals, Gracia Mpongo Mbombo and Darcy Mbaka Kipoyi.

The two have put pen to paper on a two-year contract each that will keep them at Kitende at least until October 2024.

These signings now make it five Congolese natives and in total six foreign players who have joined the five-time Uganda Premier League champions since last season.

This follows the previous signing of forward Rodriguez Shamamba, goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza and midfielder Olivier Osomba, all from Congo.

The Venoms also acquired Nigerian forward Abubakar Lawal, in a bid to beef up their squad to make an impression at the continental tournaments.

Mpombo will boost the creativity in the venom’s midfield.

Mbombo who is a 22-year old versatile midfielder has been through the DRC national team setup as he has previously received four U-17 and two U-23 selections.

Kipoyi will be expected to share the goal scoring burden with Yunus Sentamu.

On the other hand, Kipoyi is a 27-year old forward, who has previously featured for Kada Sport, FC Lupopo, Nzakimuena, Sanga-Balende and Lusaka Dynamos.

It awaits to be seen whether the duo will feature for the Venoms in the first half of the domestic season or wait for the January transfer window to be registered.

With the Champions League group stages slated to kickstart in February 2023, it is clear they will feature should head coach Roberto Oliveira deem them good enough for slots.
