The Uganda Women’s T20 Cricket League tosses off this weekend with defending champions in action against Jinja SS.
Soroti City who won their maiden T20 title last year ended now defunct Aziz Damani from winning a fourth consecutive title.
The girls from the East were dominant last season led by Victoria Pearls Captain Janet Mbabazi dropping just one game in the season.
“It’s a going to be a tough season for us our plans were affected by the policy passed by the secretariat limiting the number of national team players in our squad,” Felix Musana Chairman Soroti City noted.
The team will be without; Kevin Awino, Phiona Kulume, Sarah Akiteng, Christine Anayo, Esther Iloku, Proscovia Alako, Naume Amongin, and Kevin Amuge.
However, the side being the new hub of Ugandan women cricket has lots of young players from Light SS that will be part of the squad.
“The competition has some changes with each club will feature a max of 3 national team players and at least two U19 girl’s players,” the UCA Development Manager, Joshua Mwanga explained.
The championship this year will have nine teams divided into two groups. The teams will play double headers on each match day with the top two sides qualifying for the semifinals.
The games will be played in Lugogo, Entebbe, Jinja, and the new Florida Cricket Oval in Katosi.
Group A: Soroti City, Jinja SS, JACC, ACC, Tornado Bee
Group B: Olila CC, Wanderers, Pioneer, Tornado
