As they lost 1-0 to SC Villa on Tuesday, Soltilo Bright Stars FC were suffering a third Uganda Premier League defeat in succession inside two weeks.
Factoring in the fact that they will be playing again on Friday, against Gaddafi FC, head coach Asaph Mwebaze expressed concerns about the effects the tight schedule could spell on his team.
“It’s a challenge for the coaches because it’s just 48 hours between the games yet there’s a lot that we have to work on,” he said in a post-match reaction at Wankulukuku.
“We have to fight the fatigue, but also the tactics so there’s a lot we have to do in the next two days so that we have a team ready to play on Friday.”
Mwebaze’s side has now gone three league matches without scoring and he is a worried man.
“Today we tried to manage the game, but we are still very lethargic upfront.”
“We didn’t turn the screws on Villa where we could have. We even had an empty net, a few half chances that we could have scored but we didn’t.”
“We have to work harder on how we can break down opposing defenses and our finishing,” noted Mwebaze.
The result left Bright Stars in 10th with 24 points, and risking finishing the rest of the season under pressure over relegation.
They will be keen to turn up the gears when they host Jinja-based side Gaddafi FC on Friday at Kavumba.
